Integrating Eclipse with OpenReq

The vogella GmbH OpenReq trial continues

The vogella GmbH is one of the major contributors to the Eclipse open source project. It has been working on a new feature integrating the Eclipse IDE with the OpenReq platform. The OpenReq platform has been developed in the EU-funded OpenReq project.

The Eclipse plug-in

vogella has developed an OpenReq Eclipse plug-in. It has capabilities to collect metrics about the behavior of the Eclipse IDE users.

– The metrics are recorded by using micrometer io and used to generate new issues in order to improve the usability of the Eclipse IDE, Jennifer Nerlich, the Head of Sales, Marketing and Financials of vogella GmbH explains.

Also, the user is now able to see how frequently he or she invokes certain commands when working with the Eclipse IDE. Among the new functionalities of the Eclipse IDE is a so-called “Tip of the day” dialog. The OpenReq Eclipse plug-in contributes to this dialog. The dialog shows, for instance, whether the user prefers invoking commands by using menu entries or toolbar entries instead of shortcuts on the keyboard.
