The project involves four academic partners: HITEC, University of Hamburg (project leader), Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Technical University of Graz, and University of Helsinki. In addition, there are five industrial partners: The Qt Company, SIEMENS, ENG Engineering, vogella, and Wind Tre S.p.a..
HITEC is the technology transfer centre of the Department of Informatics at the University of Hamburg. Since 1997, HITEC provides professional services to the department and to public and commercial organizations. In particular, it conducts R&D cooperation with companies, presents, customizes, and disseminates the research results of the university.
HITEC has access to outstanding competencies in the field of complex system engineering, intelligent systems, knowledge engineering, and distributed systems. HITEC scientists have successfully contributed to various projects such as the S-CUBE EU network of excellence on Software Services and Systems Network, EU-project ReDSeeDS on applying ontologies to software engineering, the national Project Orka on organisational control and security guidelines, and EU- project MUSES on device independent, user-centric and self-adaptive corporate security system, able to cope with the concept of seamless working experience on different devices.
On the other hand, HITEC knowledge transfer expertise and its large network of commercial organizations enabled the organization of technology transfer events to promote the innovative competence enhancement technology. On average, one company per year emerged from cooperation with HITEC, which successfully supported these businesses in the spin-off phase by establishing contacts to funding, financing, or patenting. The research group MAST, Mobile Services & Software Engineering http://mast.informatik.uni
hamburg.de, is a unit of HITeC/University of Hamburg that will be actively involved in the research and development activities of OPENREQ. MAST focuses on Mobile Computing, Software Engineering, Context Awareness, and Adaptive Systems and Software Analytics. In addition to research projects in this area, MAST conducts industry collaborations, knowledge transfer and project-based teaching. For instance, some of the outputs of the innovative student projects (M-Lab) can be found on the YouTube Channel of MAST.
More than 200 years of research and teaching in the service of society has made Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) a top scientific establishment embodying one of the richest traditions in Austria. TU Graz is currently organized into 7 faculties with a total of 104 institutes. It has more than 10.000 students. TU Graz currently employs almost 1.400 scientific staff and more than 850 non-scientific staff. Institutes of TU Graz are involved in numerous Horizon 2020 research projects. The competencies of the Applied Software Engineering group (Prof. Felfernig) at the Institute for Software Technology (IST) are in the areas of recommender systems, model-based diagnosis and repair, configuration of complex products & services, and group decision making. In these areas, numerous scientific projects were performed, in particular, the following. In the EU IST-5 project CAWICOMS (1999-2002) personalized configuration algorithms have been developed. The nationally funded project COHAVE (2006-2009) deals with the improvement of sales dialogs of recommender systems based on theories of decision psychology. The nationally funded project Koba4MS (2004-2007) aimed at advancing the state-of-the-art of knowledge-based recommendation. Its focus was to improve knowledge acquisition processes. The EU IST-6 FET project WS-Diamond (2005- 2007) dealt with the diagnosis and repair of conversationally complex Web services. SoftNet (2003-2013) is the national competence cluster on Software Engineering. The nationally funded project WECARE (2009- 2011) focuses on the exploitation of recommendation technologies for the personalization of reconfiguration tasks. The nationally funded projects IntelliReq (2011-2013) and ICONE (2010-2013) focus on the development of recommendation algorithms for personalized requirements elicitation and knowledge engineering scenarios. PeopleViews (2014-2016) focuses on the integration of Human Computation techniques into recommender application development. WeWant (2015-2018) focuses on the integration of models of group decision making into group recommendation algorithms. Finally, in the Horizon 2020 project AGILE (2016-2018) the Institute for Software Technology focuses on the development of recommendation and configuration technologies for different Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios.
The Engineering group is the largest Software and Information Technology services group in Italy. The key to this success, 30 years from its foundation, is based on business and technological excellence and continuous innovation of market offer, due to a collaborative enterprise environment in which operate four market divisions (Public Administration, Industry & Utilities, Finance, Telecommunications & Media), three main business lines (System Integration & Consultancy, Software, Outsourcing), six competence centers (Managed Operations, ERP, ECM, IT Security, Plant Management Systems, Broadband & Media), and a Research & Innovation Division. In 2014 ENG has achieved operating revenues of Euro 854 million with approx. 7.500 employees located across 38 offices in Italy and many foreign subsidiaries in USA (Delaware), Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, Lebanon, Norway, Serbia. The Group mission is to design, develop and deliver innovative information systems and solutions for medium to large scale clients, involves over 1.000 clients in Europe and worldwide, with increasing overseas market activities. Since 1994, the Quality Management System of ENG is ISO 9000 certified, currently updated to ISO 9001:2008. In 2005, ENG obtained the Maturity certification SW-CMM v1.1, now holding Level 3 of the CMM v.1.2. In addition, ENG has NATO AQAP 2110 and NATO AQAP 160 certifications.
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is one of the leading Spanish technical universities. It is a public institution located in the north-eastern area of Spain, dedicated to higher education and research that specializes in the fields of architecture, science and engineering. Its schools and research centers are points of reference, both nationally and internationally, for the training of professionals and researchers and for research in the University’s areas of knowledge. UPC is involved in dozens of international projects, including EU-funded, and has dedicated departments that provide support to their management (budgeting, legal issues, etc).
UPC’ staff in OPENREQ belong to ESSI (Department of Service and Information System Engineering, http://www.essi.upc.edu) which is one of the newest UPC departments. Its members conduct research in many fields of software, service and data engineering. In relation with the project, we mention requirements engineering, risk management, and software quality. ESSI has been involved in several recent EU-funded projects: SUPERSEDE (SUpporting evolution and adaptation of PERsonalized Software by Exploiting contextual Data and End-user feedback, scientific manager; RIA, contract n. 644018) in H2020, RISCOSS (Managing Risk and Cost in OSS Projects, project coordinator; STREP, contract n. 318249) and the S-Cube Network of Excellence (as associate node; contract No. 215483) in FP7. UPC is a member of the consortiums organizing the Erasmus Mundus Master IT4BI and Erasmus Mundus Ph.D. program IT4BI-DC, both coordinated by the ESSI department.

The vogella company has two main focus areas; open source activities and customer related activities

The University of Helsinki is the oldest (since 1640) and largest institution of academic education in Finland, with 8000 employees (55% teaching and research staff). Half of them are women. UH is a founding member of the European League of Research Universities and international rankings place UH among the top 100.
Department of Computer Science has a strong presence in Open Source research and communities, e.g. Linux was born while Linus Torvalds studied and was employed here, our students participate Facebook Open Academy projects, and we have ‘Software factory’, where students work seven weeks, four or five full days a week, typically on OSS projects. The department has participated and also coordinated several 7th framework projects.
Empirical Software Engineering Helsinki (ESEH, prof. Männistö) research group addresses software engineering research problems and challenges with industrial relevance or origin. Research themes relevant to OPENREQ include product requirements and software architecture, software intensive services and (software) product variability in particular from the perspectives of requirements engineering (e.g., user needs and value) and software architecture (e.g., product family architecture and quality variability). We perform research in co-operation with numerous OSS companies. A major forum is the national Need for Speed program (~20 M€/year) where Finnish software companies aim to speed digital economy. An area of special interest for OPENREQ is ‘Deep Customer Insight’ where the aim is to gain and apply deep insight into customer needs and behavior. We can leverage this background in OPENREQ. We have a strong background in conceptual modeling, formal representation, and constructing tool support applying the Design Science research method.
The Qt Company is headquartered in Helsinki Finland, and has major offices in Oslo (Norway), Oulu (Finland), Berlin (Germany) and Santa Clara (United States), with sales offices in China, Russia, Korea and recently Japan. The Qt Company is responsible for all Qt activities including product development, commercial and open source licensing together with the Qt project under the open governance model. Together with our licensing, support and services capabilities, we operate with the mission to work closely with developers to ensure that their Qt projects are deployed on time, within budget and with a competitive advantage.
Wind Tre Italy is part of the CK group Hutchison Holdings Limited (CK Hutchison), one of the largest companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, technology, and innovation leader, operating in more than 50 countries worldwide with approximately 270,000 employees.
H3G is a worldwide mobile network operator and specifically in 2003 Wind Tre Italy was the first operator in the world to launch UMTS commercial services. It is leader in the development of new generation mobile technologies: in 2006 it has launched the first HSDPA commercial offer and it has implemented HSUPA; in December 2012, it has launched LTE services allowing peak data rate up to 100 Mbps in download and up to 50 Mbps in upload, while in January 2015 it has launched LTE Advanced services.
Today the HSPA/HSPA+ coverage has reached 97% of the population, while the LTE coverage has reached 65% of the population over 1500 municipalities and the number of customers has overcome 10 million. Wind Tre, as a European pioneer in mobile technologies, has significantly contributed to the development and strengthening of mobile broadband UMTS/HSPA/LTE standards. During these years, Wind Tre Italy has invested about 15 billion euro in innovation, helping reduce the digital divide and development of the Country.
Wind Tre Italy is also the national digital TV operator with La3, the TV channel self-produced and aired on the Sky satellite platform (ch. 163), the Internet (www.la3tv.it), smartphones and tablets.
Wind Tre with its Technology Strategy and Development Group is continuously monitoring the telecommunication technology improvements in order to exploit them in its network as an early adopter in the market. Wind Tre has relationships with GSMA and main standardization bodies like 3GPP and IETF. Wind Tre takes also part of partnerships with leading companies in different industries in many trials, pilot projects, and innovative technologies incubators
